Wuppo is an adventure game with additional RPG and platform game elements. The game was developed by a duo of independent developers known as Knuist & Perzik and was released for a number of platforms, including PC, XONE and PS4. PlotWuppo takes us to a fantasy world. The player assumes control of a wum, an easy-going round being who has been exiled from his home community. The hero has to embark on a dangerous journey in order to find himself a new home.

Unexpectedly, the protagonist becomes involved in a conspiracy that sees him solve an ancient conflict. MechanicsIn Wuppo, the action is seen from a side scrolling perspective.

Wuppo is a two man passion project, with hand-drawn visuals, an extensive soundtrack and a huge world to explore. Use items and social skills to overcome diverse challenges.

Our journey sees us travel through vast and varied locales (including two major cities known as Popocity and Bliekopolis), avoid numerous traps and take care of various opponents including powerful bosses. The battles take place in real time and require agility as well as good use of wum’s abilities.

On the other hand, the player encounters neutral characters and puzzles that are solved by employing found items. Moreover, our hero gathers stills that reveal the origins of this unique world. Technical AspectsWuppo ’s two-dimensional graphics are especially characteristic for their unique design – the game sports waterpainted visuals.

We are also left with an atmospheric soundtrack that further reinforces the fantasy setting.

Wuppo manages to do all of these things and without a doubt it’s one of the most enjoyable indie game’s I’ve played this year. The story in the game fits in perfectly with the gameplay, and the best thing about it is that it’s packed full of humour and charm. The world in the game works very well with the story and I loved how much the world was alive, which in turn made me want to explore even more. I was very fond of the gameplay in the game and I especially liked the combat.

The combat is fun and exciting throughout and the most important thing is that it remained responsive throughout. I will say though that the game does have difficulty spikes and these spikes can make you become a little frustrated because they seem to come out of nowhere.

I also found the controls to be a little fiddly and awkward at times, but thankfully that only occurred when I was dealing with a full inventory. One of my favourite things about the game were the boss fights. You can tell that a great deal of effort has gone into the bosses and they definitely have a unique side to them. Divided cheese. The presentation side of the game is also unique and certain things make the game stand out quite a bit. This is especially the case with the visuals, and the art style that’s used here is brilliant and makes you love the game even more. At the end of the day Wuppo offers you an adventure that’s charming and very very addictive. It’s a game that can be enjoyed by gamers of all ages and I must admit that me and my family had a great time with the game.

It does have a few niggling problems every now and then, but you quickly forget about them because the game gets so much right. If you’re looking for something that’s fun, charming and at times very unique then look no further than Wuppo.
